Ye Young Yoon is an accomplished performer and educator based in Texas. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, she moved to the United States at the age of 16. She was a member from Sarasota Orchestra as a section percussionist from 2019-2023. Prior to her appointment with SO, she was at Rice University in Houston, TX.
She has performed with a variety of groups such as Dallas Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, The Florida Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic and more. In addition to Orchestral playing, she is a new music advocate and has performed with groups such as ENSRQ and Cabrillo Festival Orchestra and has premiered new works by Helmut Lachenmann, David Maric and Avner Dorman. Ye Young has also worked under world renowned musicians including Andris Nelsons, Thomas Adès, Wynton Marsalis, Bramwell Tovey, Gerard Schwarz and more.
In addition to performing, she is an active educator, having presented a master class at Tufts University, Buffalo State University, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and worked with students at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and Fort Settlement Middle School in Sugar Land, TX. She is currently a private lesson teacher in Wylie ISD district.
Ye Young Yoon currently lives in Plano, Texas. When she’s not performing with the orchestra, she enjoys arranging music for marimba. She has a YouTube channel called yemarimba where she posts her personal arrangements online. She also enjoys working out, baking and watching Netflix during her free time.
She was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and Spoleto Festival. Ye Young earned her undergrad from the University of Michigan, Master of Music from New England Conservatory and Rice University.
